AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Augusta County Public Schools announced the appointment of Matthew Hopewell as Assistant Principal for Wilson Memorial High School effective July 1, 2026.

Hopewell has recently served Staunton City Schools as the Assistant Principal at Bessie Weller Elementary. Prior to becoming an administrator, he was a Health and PE teacher in Albemarle and Alleghany County Public Schools. Additionally, he has extensive coaching experience in both football and soccer.

A graduate of Wilson Memorial High School, Hopewell earned a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education/Physical Education from Marshall University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from James Madison University. During his career, Hopewell has leadership experiences through his roles as a 504 Coordinator, Dean of Students, School Testing Coordinator, AVID Site Team Coordinator, and a Team Leader.
