ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Virginia State Police is investigating a crash involving an SUV and a train Wednesday night in Rockingham County.
Spokesman Matt Demlein says it all happened around 11 o’clock on Route 340 in Elkton.
“A Chevrolet Tahoe was travelling south on Route 340 while a Norfolk Southern train was crossing Route 340 to head northbound (north of the Coors Plant). The preliminary investigation indicates the Tahoe went through the crossing arm and struck the train,” Demlein explained.
Demlein reports that the Tahoe then went off of the left side of the road and overturned down an embankment, leaving the driver with serious injuries.
The two occupants on the train were not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
