ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Fire and Rescue crews battled a destructive blaze Friday morning in Rockingham County.
At around 9:45am, Battalion Chief Doug Gooden said units were dispatched to a reported residential fire on the 18-thousand block of Mount Pleasant Road in Elkton.
“It was an approximately a 20-by-40 outbuilding,” Gooden noted. “It was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and it was a total loss. They’re estimating damages (to be) around $30,000.”
Gooden reports that the building, used to store lawn equipment and household items, was located a safe 50 to 70 feet away from the nearest building, preventing damage to the house on the property.
Firefighters from Elkton, McGaheysville, and Shenandoah helped to clear the scene by 10:45.
No one was injured in the incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
