HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — A Harrisonburg City Public Schools staff member has been named the Virginia Manager of the Year.
Sherry Wetzel, the Cafeteria Manager at Thomas Harrison Middle School, was recognized during last night’s Harrisonburg City Public School Board meeting for winning that award from the School Nutrition Association of Virginia.
Wetzel said that there are other factors besides nutrition that make her job important.
“I feel like sometimes this is the only hot meal that they’re gonna get and it’s a very important part of Harrisonburg City Schools.”
Superintendent Dr. Michael Richards said that Wetzel creates a culture of kindness and inclusion for all students.
He added that the food quality at Thomas Harrison Middle must be high, since 90 percent of students eat the school-provided lunch every day.
