Garnette Morris Meadows, age 83, of Ruckersville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 4, 2024 surrounded by her two daughters. Garnette was preceded in death by her parents, Perry and Annie Morris; a son, Scott Meadows; her sister, Faye Oliver; a brother, Harold Morris; and a niece, Wanda Oliver.

She is survived by her children, Terri Hurley and her husband, Mark of Elkton; and Amanda Mills and her husband, Jon of Ruckersville. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Barry Ecroyd and his wife, Billie Jo of Elkton, Jordan Ecroyd of Harrisonburg, Perrin Mills of Charlottesville, Ariana Mills of Ruckersville and Kelan Mills of Ruckersville; as well as great-grandchildren, Trey Ecroyd and Madison Ecroyd of Elkton; and two special nieces, Gloria Oliver and Kathy Knight of Ruckersville.

Garnette was born January 21, 1941 in Dyke, Virginia. She graduated from William Monroe High School in Stanardsville, Virginia. She started her career at UVA’s Payroll Department and worked there until she went to work for the Gynecological Oncology Department as the secretary. From there, she worked for Dr. Curt Tribble at UVA in the Cardiac Department. She retired from UVA in 2006 and then became a full-time Nana/Grandma, visiting and driving her grandkids around wherever they needed to go. She was a lifelong member and taught Sunday School at Spring Hill Baptist Church in Ruckersville for over 20 years and enjoyed every single minute of it. She made a huge impact on a lot of people and was well loved!

The family would like to thank the nurses and caregivers of the Memory Care side of Brookdale Senior Living in Harrisonburg, Virginia for their wonderful care of mom. Also, we would like to thank Legacy Hospice of Harrisonburg for the amazing care and support we received during the short time mom was with them.

A Memorial Service will be conducted 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.
