HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The James Madison University (JMU) Marching Royal Dukes will perform before the Xfinity 500 NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday, November 1 at Martinsville Speedway.

Nearly 400 members of the Marching Royal Dukes will participate in the pre-race ceremony, marching onto the track and performing “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the green flag. Fireworks and a military flyover are also scheduled as part of the opening festivities.

According to JMU officials, the appearance marks the band’s first performance at a NASCAR event and adds to a long list of high-profile appearances that includes the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, presidential inaugurations and international performances.
