HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Community Connectors Program presented some updates to the Harrisonburg City Council during last night’s meeting. The program’s focus is addressing and better understanding the Urban Renewal through the Northeast Neighborhood Small Area Plan.

They also provided historical research about Urban Renewal and the impacts on the residents and business owners who were displaced from their homes.

Mayor Deanna Reed said the work from the historians was incredible.

“I appreciate the work that all of you have done,” said Mayor Reed. “You are literally speaking, our ancestors, you’re telling their stories from the grave.”

The program said the priority is to rebuild trust between Northeast Neighborhood residents and the City of Harrisonburg.
