AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — A Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) probationer who absconded from Cold Springs Community Correctional Alternative Program (CCAP) Wednesday afternoon is now in
custody.
Anthony Moreland, 42, absconded from Cold Springs CCAP at approximately 1:15 p.m. Wednesday. The VADOC immediately issued an arrest warrant for a probation violation (commonly referred to as a PB-15) and worked with the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office to apprehend Moreland.
Moreland was arrested at approximately 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and will be reporting back to his sentencing court. Moreland was sentenced to CCAP in March 2024 by Roanoke City Circuit Court, following a conviction for shoplifting. The offense occurred in December 2022.
According to a news release, VADOC CCAPs are secure probation facilities, not correctional centers, and probationers agree to participate in CCAP as an alternative to incarceration. Participants in CCAP are classified as probationers, not inmates.
