WAYNESBORO, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Waynesboro Police Department is investigating a fatal vehicle-pedestrian collision that occurred on May 4, 2026, at approximately 8:43 p.m. in the 2000 block of Rosser Avenue.

According to a release, officers, along with the Waynesboro Fire Department and Waynesboro First Aid Crew, responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in this area. Upon arrival, responding units located the injured adult individual and began rescue efforts. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased shortly after.

Preliminary investigation reportedly determined the pedestrian was an individual officers had encountered earlier on a different call for service in the vicinity of the collision. The victim’s identity is being withheld for now pending confirmation and next of kin notification.

The vehicle’s driver, an 86-year-old male from Waynesboro, was not injured.

The investigation remains active.
