HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Harrisonburg City Council adopted a resolution dedicating a new section of University Boulevard as a public street and renaming a section of University Boulevard to Driver Drive.
According to the resolution, this is due to the recent University Boulevard Realignment Project in which Director of Public Works Tom Hartman provided an update.
“Primarily the University Boulevard area of the city. If you’ve been out there, you’ve noticed you’re driving on a new road,” said Hartman. “We have a new alignment through there, which is much appreciated, and we’re almost done. We’re getting very close to the end of the project.”
The City Council was requested to consider renaming a portion of University Boulevard, Convocation Center Service Drive, and Forest Hill Road to reflect the physical realignment of University Boulevard, which now continues to intersect directly with Port Republic Road. The impacted area of this change is in vicinity of the Convocation Center and the segment that runs from Oak Hill Drive to Port Republic Road.
Formal notification letters will be mailed to each property owner informing them of this change.
Address changes for City impacted addresses will be programmed to take effect starting January 1, 2027.
