HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — UPDATE (12:00 PM): A man suffered head trauma following a collision this morning in Harrisonburg.

At around 9:00 AM, Lieutenant Todd Miller reports that officers were dispatched to a traffic crash involving a pedestrian at West Market Street and North High Street.

“A 22-year-old male was crossing North High Street in the crosswalk and was struck by a vehicle making a left turn from Market to High Street,” Miller said. “The victim was taken to Sentara RMH for head trauma and then promptly transported to UVA by helicopter.”

Miller added that the driver, 71-year-old Philip Mason of Rockingham, was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian.

Several lanes of traffic were closed for about an hour while the accident reconstruction team processed the scene.

UPDATE (9:39 AM): North High Street has reopened.

Harrisonburg Police say that the Northbound lanes of High Street are closed at West Market Street due to a crash involving a pedestrian. Police advise to find an alternate route.
