ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Rockingham County School Board approved to implement the Virginia Department of Education’s (VDOE) Permissive Local Alternative Assessment (PLAA) option for Grade 4 Virginia Studies and Grade 8 Civics and Economics in accordance with Senate Bill 200 and Virginia Department of Education guidelines.  

The PLAA would serve as the state-required assessment and replace the Standards of Learning test for participating students. 

Implementation would reportedly follow all VDOE requirements and support the division’s ongoing efforts to measure student learning through inquiry, critical thinking, analysis of sources, and evidence-based reasoning. 

The motion passed 4 to 1.
