HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD) is celebrating its 31st year participating in National Night Out, a nationwide initiative that reportedly brings neighbors, law enforcement, and community partners together to promote public safety and community pride.

This year’s event will take place on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Ralph Sampson Park in Harrisonburg.

The community is invited to eat hamburgers and hot dogs grilled by HPD officers, snacks and drinks, activities for children, emergency vehicle displays, and opportunities to engage with HPD officers, firefighters, and community organizations. The park’s spray grounds will be open as part of the event, and the basketball courts will also be available.

First introduced in 1984, National Night Out is observed annually on the first Tuesday in August and now involves over 16,000 communities across the United States.
