HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — It is a year in jail for the Harrisonburg man involved in a standoff with police last year.
According to online records, Jason Mercado was found guilty on one of the three charges he faced during a two-day trial that began Tuesday morning in Rockingham County Circuit Court.
A jury found the 29-year-old Mercado guilty of misdemeanor brandishing a firearm while dismissing two felony counts of abduction by force.
A judge then sentenced him to 12 months in jail and forced him to pay nearly 45-hundred dollars in cost.
Mercado was seen swinging a machete in the 12-hundred block of Virginia Avenue last October.
When officers arrived, he ran into a trailer home that was occupied by two women, and he was also armed with an AR-15 style rifle.
A SWAT team was finally to get Mercado to leave the trailer early next morning.
