STAUNTON, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Staunton woman charged with taking money from an elementary school PTA has escaped jail time.

Online records indicated that Felicia Neil reached a plea deal with prosecutors this week.

Neil pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of embezzlement of under a thousand dollars. In exchange for that plea, another charge was dropped.

A judge then sentenced Neil to a one-year, suspended sentence and forced her to pay 262 dollars in costs.

In February of 2024, Ware Elementary School PTA members found several thousand dollars missing from the PTA bank account.

Neil’s twin sister, former Staunton School Board chair Natasha McCurdy, also pleaded guilty last September to misdemeanor embezzlement and received a one-year suspended sentence.
