SHENANDOAH COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Authorities are calling those getting ready to celebrate Halloween to always be aware of their surroundings, look out for others, and make safe choices.

Master Deputy Andrew Gray with the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office reminds trick-or-treaters to “stay with your group, stick to familiar and well-lit areas, and make sure an adult knows where you are going. Carry a flashlight or add something reflective to your costume so you can be easily seen after dark, and remember to look both ways before crossing the street.”

Gray encourages parents to make sure costumes fit properly, to help prevent trips and falls, and to check collected candy before children dig in.

Additionally, drivers should slow down in neighborhoods, put phones away, and keep a vigilant eye out for trick-or-treaters who may be crossing the street.
