AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) —
The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred in the parking lot of Orchard Hill Shopping Center.
This shopping center has TJ Maxx, Food Lion, and other small businesses.
Sheriff Donald Smith says at approximately 1:31 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office received a report of two males actively fighting in the parking lot. During the altercation, the situation escalated, a firearm was produced, and shots were fired.
The initial report indicated that one individual had been shot.
Deputies arrived on scene at approximately 1:38 p.m. and immediately located the reported victim. After assessing the individual, deputies determined that he had not been struck by gunfire.
The male suspect involved in the incident left the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement.
The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating this incident. There is a significant law enforcement presence in the area as deputies and investigators work to identify and locate the suspect and determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
