ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Rockingham County’s new technical center took another step forward at last night’s Board of Supervisors meeting.

The body unanimously approved Rockingham County Public Schools’ request for a special use permit to allow construction of the school at the intersection of North Valley Pike and Research Drive.

Schools Director of Maintenance Steve Reid reported at last month’s School Board meeting that construction is scheduled to begin October 5th, with final completion expected in May of 2028.

The new technical school will be part of the County’s Innovation Village.

According to the agenda posted on the Rockingham County website, The proposed vocational facility is anticipated to include 570 students annually and a staff of 72 employees. Although some classes will be held during non-traditional hours, a majority of students will attend between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

The facility is expected to include a 165,000 square foot main school building, a 5,405 square foot veterinary science building, a 2,000 square foot maintenance equipment building, and a 9,815 square foot exterior supply building are proposed. The school is also anticipating an approximately 17,000 square foot future addition, which is shown on the special use permit site sketch.
