AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Georgia woman who was arrested following a high-speed chase on Interstate 81 has been indicted.
Online records showed that an Augusta County Circuit Court grand jury returned two indictments against Melissa Mathura during a hearing on Tuesday. One of those charges is felony eluding.
The 43-year-old Mathura was arrested after leading authorities on a chase that began during the early morning hours of January 30 in Augusta County.
The chase crossed into Rockbridge County where Sheriff Tony McFaddin reported that her vehicle was clocked at speeds exceeding 100 miles-per-hour and driving erratically.
The pursuit ended when authorities deployed tire deflation devices that safely disabled the car near mile-marker 197.
She remains in custody and is scheduled to enter a plea in the case on June 16.
