STAUNTON, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Virginia Department of Historic Resources has announced that a state historical marker will be dedicated in Staunton this weekend to highlight the Queen Miller Home, which was an orphanage for black children in the early 20th century.
Department Communications Manager Ivy Ager said a dedication ceremony will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the site of the marker on West Beverley Street.
Following the dedication ceremony, a reception and fellowship gathering will take place at Mount Zion Baptist Church.
Interestingly, the group Preservation Virginia announced that last week that the Queen Miller Home was on its list of Virginia’s Most Endangered Historic Places.
