AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office arrested two people after a cross-county pursuit through Augusta and Rockbridge counties on Sunday.
Sheriff Donald Smith says deputies were in the 700 block of Spotswood Road attempting to serve multiple felony warrants on Anthony Chase Buchanan. Augusta County and Rockbridge County Deputies have been working a joint investigation in an effort to apprehend Buchanan.
Deputies approached a vehicle in the 700 block of Spotswood Road that they believed was being operated by Buchanan. When an Augusta County Deputy approached the vehicle to make contact with the driver, the vehicle fled the area at a high rate of speed. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, identified as a 2013 white Ford F-150 truck, however the driver refused to stop.
Sheriff Smith says the pursuit entered Rockbridge County where Rockbridge County Deputies assisted. The pursuit later returned into Augusta County where deputies successfully deployed tire deflation devices, disabling the vehicle. The vehicle ultimately stopped at the intersection of Old Greenville Road and Stover School Road.
The driver then exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Deputies later located the suspect lying in a nearby creek attempting to conceal himself in the water and was identified as Anthony Chase Buchanan and was taken into custody.
Buchanan was held without bond and is currently incarcerated at Middle River Regional Jail.
