ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Rockingham County School Board unanimously approved a four-year contract for Superintendent Dr. Larry Shifflett, extending his leadership of Rockingham County Public Schools (RCPS) through June 30, 2030, during tonight’s school board meeting.
According to a release, Dr. Shifflett began his career in the division in 1997 as a social studies teacher at Wilbur S. Pence Middle School. Over the past three decades, he has served RCPS as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, director, assistant superintendent, and, for the past three years, superintendent.
Dr. Shifflett holds a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Virginia and both a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education from James Madison University.
Dr. Shifflett said he is honored by the board’s continued confidence and remains committed to serving the RCPS community.
“I am grateful to the School Board for their trust and support,” said Shifflett. “It is a privilege to serve the community that shaped my family and me. I will continue to ensure every student has access to a high-quality education and every employee feels supported in their work. Together, we will continue building on the strong foundation already in place across Rockingham County Public Schools.”
