HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD) announced that Detective Patrick Smoot has been named Law Person of the Year by the Kiwanis Club of Harrisonburg.

Detective Smoot has served the Harrisonburg community since joining the department in June 2016. After several years on patrol, he moved to the Criminal Investigation Division, where he has reportedly built a strong reputation as a skilled investigator and dependable partner to agencies across the region.

According to HPD officials, his work has been marked by professionalism, initiative, and a willingness to assist others on complex and time-sensitive cases. He has taken on numerous leadership roles and is a trusted mentor to those around him including officers, detectives, and professional staff.

In addition to his investigative responsibilities, Detective Smoot serves as an Assistant Team Leader on the S.W.A.T. Team, where he helps support high-risk operations and specialized training with a strong focus on preparation, precision, and safety.
