HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – Solid pitching and timely hitting led James Madison baseball to a 5-1 victory over Louisiana, securing the series on Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park.

JMU (15-15, 6-6 Sun Belt) finished with five runs on six hits, while Louisiana (19-13, 4-8 Sun Belt) recorded one run on five hits along with two errors.

Tyler Lutz recorded his first win of the season for the Dukes, allowing four hits and one run across 3.2 innings of work. Tyler Muscar picked up his second save of the season, pitching 1.3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

Shortstop Jack Anderson went 2-3 at the plate, while outfielder Ike Schmidly hit 1-3 with a two-RBI double. Conner Worth picked up a pair of hits, which included a two-RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning.

How It Happened
First Inning
With two runners in scoring position, a single by Moody drove in a run. A single from Ike Schmidly brought in two more runs, putting the Dukes ahead 3-0.

Seventh Inning
An RBI sacrifice fly by Lee Amedee scored a run for the Cajuns, making it 3-1 in favor of JMU.

Eighth Inning
Conner Worth launched a double to plate two Dukes, bringing JMU’s lead to 5-1.

Ninth Inning
A pair of Louisiana baserunners reached on walks, but Muscar fanned a pair of batters and popped up Donovan LaSalle to secure the save and the win for the Dukes.

Game Notes
• Ike Schmidly recorded the eighth multi-RBI game of his career, knocking in a pair of runs in the first inning.
• The Dukes improved to 7-2 on Saturdays this season.
