TYSONS, Va. (JMU Athletics) – In a game that featured four lead changes and three ties, James Madison baseball prevailed, 12-7, over Georgetown at Capital One Park on Tuesday evening.

The Dukes pushed their record to 13-14, while the Hoyas fell to 16-13.

Redshirt sophomore Clay Thompson had one of his best games this season to lead JMU at the plate, as he went 3-for-5 with two RBI, three runs scored and three doubles. His hits and runs scored tallies are season highs and he becomes the first Duke to hit three doubles in a game since Fenwick Trimble did so against Richmond on April 4, 2023.

Senior Jaden Kinsler improved his record this season to 4-0, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts. Redshirt sophomore Luke McGrath earned his fourth save this season behind 1.1 scoreless innings and a career-high four strikeouts.

How It Happened
First Inning
JMU jumped out in front four batters into the game, as sophomore Reece Moody singled up the middle to score junior Josiah Seguin. Redshirt sophomore Clay Thompson followed Moody with his first double of the day to make it 2-0 for the Dukes.

Georgetown responded by scoring a run on a double to get on the board and then plated a pair of unearned runs to take a 3-2 lead.

Third Inning
The Hoyas scored a run on a groundout to extend their lead to two.

Fourth Inning
Seguin tied the game for JMU with a two-run double, scoring junior Kyle Langley and sophomore Jack Anderson to make it four all.

Fifth Inning
The Dukes regained the lead on a double off the bat of Anderson, scoring two runs for a 6-4 lead.

GU quickly responded with a two-run homer to tie the game again at six.

Sixth Inning
It was the Hoyas’ turn to regain the lead, as Jeremy Sheffield singled in a run for a 7-6 lead.

Seventh Inning
JMU tied the game at seven, as senior Wyatt Campbell scored on a wild pitch after the Dukes loaded the bases.

Eighth Inning
After a stolen base and error allowed Thompson to go from first to third, freshman Ryan Gocio drove him in on a grounder to take the lead. Anderson then pushed across a pair of insurance runs on a triple for a 10-7 JMU lead.

Ninth Inning
The Dukes pushed two more insurance runs across the plate, with Thompson’s third double of the night driving in the first one and a single from Gocio bringing in the second to make the score 12-7.

Game Notes
• The Dukes were hit by a pitch seven times, setting a new single-game program record.
• JMU hit six doubles on the day, tying for the most this season.
• Jack Anderson went 2-for-2 with four RBI, setting a new career high.
• Eight of the Dukes’ 11 RBI came with two outs.
• Josiah Seguin pushed his hit streak to 10 games, as he had a six-game hit streak before an eight-game absence, then recorded a hit in the last four games since he returned to the lineup.
