Residents, visitors, and even students looking to experience life on a working farm can now step behind the scenes at Sunrise Farms, where guided tours offer an up-close look at sustainable agriculture in the Shenandoah Valley.

The family-owned farm invites guests to explore its operations through scheduled tours held throughout the warmer months. Designed to be both educational and interactive, the experience gives participants a firsthand understanding of how food is raised, processed and brought to local tables.

Each tour typically includes a tractor-pulled wagon ride across the property, where visitors can observe key aspects of the farm’s daily operations. Stops along the way highlight pasture-raised livestock, including grass-finished cattle, pigs, and chickens housed in mobile coops—an approach that supports rotational grazing and animal welfare.

Guests also get a look at the farm’s non-GMO feed mill, where grains are processed to support both the farm’s animals and other regional farms. While the mill is not open for walkthroughs, guides explain how the process works and why non-GMO feed is central to the farm’s mission.

Tours generally last between one and one-and-a-half hours and are led by members of the Miller family, who have operated the farm since 2003. The experience is tailored to a variety of groups, including families, school groups, and community organizations interested in agriculture and sustainability.

In addition to touring the grounds, visitors are encouraged to stop by the on-site retail store, which offers all-natural meats, eggs, honey, and animal feed products. The store provides a direct connection between consumers and the source of their food, reinforcing the farm’s commitment to transparency and quality.

Tours are offered by appointment from spring through fall, with select dates scheduled each month. Admission is $10 per person, with group rates available upon request.
