RICHMOND, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Senate passed a measure Monday that will end the commonwealth’s observance of daylight savings time in Virginia.
The measure, which passed on a 24-16 vote, provides that Virginia would observe eastern standard time year-round.
Northern Virginia Senator Danica Roem added an amendment to the measure in that it would only take effect if Maryland and D.C. would follow suit.
“D.C. and Maryland can NOT be on a different time schedule than Virginia because you will absolutely have human error that contributes to major, actual problems when dealing with our national security apparatus that is tied throughout the DMV region,” Roem said.
The measure will now move over to the House.
