ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Virginia’s 4pm burn ban will be in effect starting Sunday, February 15 and continue until April 30th.

The after 4 p.m. burn law relates to open burning that is within 300 foot of dry flammable material that can spread a fire. This ban applies to burning yard waste, branches, leaves, grasses, etc.

Officials note that this does not include recreational fires. Recreational campfires are permitted if only firewood is used, the firepit or campfire is less than 3 foot in diameter, and it is at least 25 feet away from anything flammable (buildings, woodlands, etc).

As with all outdoor fires, make sure that they are never left unattended, and that you have a way readily available to extinguish the campfire when you are done or if the wind conditions change.
