Legislators have reached an agreement on state budget amendments.

House Appropriations Committee Chair Barry Knight and Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee Chair Janet Howel said in a joint statement last week that the updated budget will provide some tax rebates and make investments in education and behavioral health.

House Speaker and Woodstock Delegate Todd Gilbert tweeted out that the announcement was encouraging, and that Virginia is closer to providing real tax relief to families who are squeezed by inflation.

The deal includes a one-time tax rebate of 200 dollars for individuals and 400 for joint filers and increases the standard deduction to 85-hundred dollars for single-filers and 17-thousand for joint filers.
