HARRISONBURG, Va – Monday is National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day, and Harrisonburg Police are urging anyone who knows someone struggling with fentanyl abuse to speak up.

In a social media statement, they said that two-to-three milligrams of the drug is enough to kill an adult. According to the department, 12 people have died from fentanyl use since the beginning of last year.

Statewide, Virginia Department of Health data shows that more than 500 people died of fentanyl overdose in the first quarter of 2023.
