The Virginia Department of Health says that while most incoming kindergartners are vaccinated against preventable diseases, the number may not be high enough.
As schools across the state get back into session, V-D-H reports that around 89 percent of kindergartners have received their full vaccine load. Officials say that’s a lower figure than before the COVID-19 pandemic.
They say that kindergartners are one of three age groups that receive critical inoculations, along with seventh and twelfth grades – and that immunization deficiencies can trigger a resurgence in diseases like measles or polio.
