An innovative farming company has broken ground in Virginia on what it says will be the largest vertical farm campus on the planet.

Yesterday, Governor Glenn Youngkin attended a groundbreaking ceremony for Plenty Unlimited’s new facility near Richmond that’s expected to produce more than 4 million pounds of strawberries every year.

But here’s the thing – the berries don’t grow in a field. They grow in layers stacked on top of one another.

According to the company, this type of business model can yield up to 350-times more produce than a typical farm setting, while Governor Youngkin said the new facility is expected to produce 300 jobs.
