AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — UPDATE: The suspect responsible for shooting a deputy Wednesday night on Parkersburg Turnpike has died, according to the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation out of Appomattox.
Sergeant Jessica Shehan reports that three deputies assigned to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit were attempting to take a subject into custody shortly after 8:30 Wednesday night when shots were fired in the 800 block of Parkersburg Turnpike.
“One deputy was struck in the arm and was transported by medical helicopter to the University of Virginia Medical Center for treatment. The suspect was also provided life-saving measures at the scene; however, the suspect was pronounced deceased.”
Shehan added the deputy’s injuries are reported as non-life-threatening.
