HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Harrisonburg High School (HHS) Biology teacher Anna Henkel has been awarded the 2025 Recognition in Science Education (RISE) Award in Biology by the Virginia Association of Science Teachers (VAST). RISE Awards are presented to spotlight the work done by science educators across the Commonwealth.
“Anna’s dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to her students make her an exemplary educator,” said Dr. Melissa Hensley, HHS principal in a release. “Anna supports a diverse population that includes many English language learners and students with disabilities. Her exceptional ability to differentiate instruction and create meaningful connections allows every student to access the rigorous biology curriculum and experience success.”
Henkel was recognized last week with other VAST award winners at VAST’s Professional Development Institute in Alexandria, VA.
