HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Harrisonburg City Council took time during last night’s meeting to hold a discussion regarding the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in the city.
Mayor Deanna Reed said these incidents have not only harmed individuals and families but have shaken the sense of safety and belonging that they worked to build in Harrisonburg.
“Every person who calls Harrisonburg home regardless of where they’re from, where they’re born, deserves to be treated with humanity and respect,” said Mayor Reed. “What has occurred does not reflect our values nor does it represent the kind of community we aspire to be.”
Mayor Reed continued by saying the discussion was not about politics; it was about people.
