CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (Rocktown Now) — A James Madison University professor has been arrested for allegedly possessing child pornography.

According to online records, JMU Associate Professor of Latin American and Caribbean studies, William Chisholm Van Norman of Charlottesville was arrested Tuesday and with one count Possession of Child Pornography and two counts of Second or Subsequent Violation of Possession of Child Pornography.

The Charlottesville Police Department obtained search warrants for the 68-year-old’s residence after receiving a tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in February.

According to the CPD, Van Norman was subsequently arrested without incident and is currently being held in the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
