HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Virginia voters approved all three proposed constitutional amendments during Tuesday’s election, paving the way for changes involving reproductive rights, marriage equality and voting rights restoration.

According to election results, all three measures received majority support from voters across the Commonwealth.

The amendments include:

  • Question 1 – Reproductive Rights: Establishes a fundamental right to reproductive freedom in the Virginia Constitution, protecting decisions involving prenatal care, childbirth, contraception, abortion, miscarriage management and fertility care.
  • Question 2 – Marriage Equality: Removes the existing constitutional language banning same-sex marriage and establishes protections for marriages between two adults regardless of sex, gender or race.
  • Question 3 – Voting Rights Restoration: Automatically restores voting rights to individuals convicted of felonies once they are released from incarceration, rather than requiring them to seek individual restoration from the governor.

The amendments received approximately 62% support for Question 1, 57% for Question 2 and 55% for Question 3, according to state election figures.

The amendments followed a multiyear process in the Virginia General Assembly, which approved each proposal twice before sending them to voters for a final decision.
