HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) – The Harrisonburg City Council was presented with the proposed 2025-2026 Budget at last night’s meeting.
The total proposed budget would be $416.5 million. This is a $13.4 million increase from last year’s budget. Some highlights in the budget include investments in water and sewer structure, a 4% pay increase for City employees, and investments in City Schools’ facilities.
There is a plan to not increase the current tax rates but there are slight increases in rates and fees.
Mayor Deanna Reed said that this is just the beginning and the deadline for adoption is May 31st.
“That gives us time to, if we feel like we need to have any work sessions or additional conversations or discussions, we have until then,” said Mayor Reed.
The Council will be presented with the proposed budget again on April 22nd.
