FREDERICK COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) – In the late afternoon hours of April 6th, emergency communications personnel received a call from the Shawnee Land area with a male subject claiming that he had just shot his stepfather.
According to a press release, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and EMS personnel responded to the residence and made contact with a 16-year-old male subject, unarmed, in a wooded area near the home.
Once confirmed that this was the subject who had called in about the possible shooting, the teen was detained without incident for further investigation. Inside the residence, an adult male victim was located, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, and who was then transported to the Winchester Medical Center for treatment.
It was determined that the suspect and victim both live in the residence and share a relation through marriage as stepson and stepfather. Through further interviews and investigation, evidence shows that, while there was no physical altercation or argument at the time, the suspect produced a small caliber rifle and shot the victim before other family members interceded and took possession of the weapon.
After the shooting, the suspect walked out of the residence, made the emergency call and surrendered to deputies
upon their arrival.
Upon medical examination, the victim was found to have what was believed to be non-life-threatening injuries and last reported to be in stable condition.
The suspect was arrested and taken processed through the juvenile intake system where charges were obtained for Attempted Murder, Malicious Wounding and Firing a Weapon in an Occupied Dwelling.
The suspect is currently being held at the juvenile detention facility.
