ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) – After 11 seasons as boys’ basketball coach at East Rockingham High School, Carey Keyes announced this morning that he is stepping down to become the next athletic director at Central High School in Woodstock.
Keyes told WSVA news that it was not an easy decision to leave East Rock, but he is ready to take the next step.
“Probably for about the last year or so, I’ve been thinking about maybe taking this step. Finish up my master’s degree. Knew I didn’t want to coach forever,” said Keyes. “But love obviously basketball and athletics in general. So, just thought this would be a great way to finish my career.”
In 11 seasons under Keyes, the Eagles went 205-77 and won eight district titles and made four state tournament appearances.
