BROADWAY, VA (Rocktown Now) – Rockingham County fire officials are investigating what caused a blaze early Tuesday morning that destroyed a home in the Broadway area.
Assistant Fire Marshal Tyler Jessup reports that call came in shortly before 4 a.m. and when crews arrived at the home on North Mountain Road, they found fire showing from the single-family home.
“Initially, crews had a defensive attack because there was heavy enough fire to where it was not safe enough to send firefighters into the structure,” Jessup said. “However, as they gained some control of the fire, they worked on gaining extinguishment.”
Jessup said it took firefighters about 20 minutes to gain control of the fire but not before the house was deemed uninhabitable.
The Red Cross has been called in to help with the displaced family.
Incidentally, a dog alerted the family of the fire, and everyone was able to escape unharmed. No injuries were reported.
