ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) – The Rockingham County School Board has voted to remove six books from their schools’ libraries during tonight’s meeting. 

Superintendent Dr. Larry Shifflett recommended to remove Red, White, and Royal Blue, Tilt, and Tricks. Dr. Shifflett said the reason for removal was because the books contain sexually explicit content as defined in RCPS Policy IIABA. The motion for the three books passed unanimously.

Dr. Larry Shifflett recommended to retain Felix Ever AfterFade, and The Duff. Hollie Cave filed a motion for all three books for removal due to the material containing sexually explicit content as defined in RCPS Policy IIABA. The motion passed with majority vote. Board Member Jackie Lohr voted against the removal.

 The book that was retained was Stars in their Eyes. Hollie Cave filed a motion to only retain the book in the high school level. The motion passed unanimously.
