AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Augusta County Clerk of Circuit Court Steve Landes announced this week that an original copy of the Augusta Resolves broadside will be on display at the Augusta County Circuit Courthouse Record Room next week, February 24-28, to commemorate the adoption of the Resolves by Augusta County freeholders 250 years ago.
Landes stated in a news release that the Augusta Resolves was an important declaration by the patriots in Augusta County regarding grievances with the British Parliament leading up to the American Revolution.
The Augusta Resolves were drafted by an elected committee of freeholders and adopted on February 22nd, 1775, at a meeting in the Augusta County Courthouse in Staunton.
The Augusta Resolves broadside was eventually returned to the county in 1986.
