STAUNTON, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Staunton man who was facing second degree murder charges in regard to a shooting last year was due back in court Monday afternoon for a status hearing. However, according to online records, the hearing for Rodney Dwayne Phillips was continued generally.

Monday’s hearing comes after his murder trial ended in a mistrial late Friday night.

He was accused in the shooting death of Jonathan Michael Jacobs on the night of March 8th at the Howard Johnson Motel on North Central Avenue.

His trial lasted four days with the jury finally getting the case late Friday night.

After several hours of deliberations, the jury could not reach a decision and a mistrial was declared.
