ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Rockingham County’s new Indoor Recreation Center had a soft opening ceremony today.
The 80,000 square-foot facility is located at Rockingham Park at the Crossroads and boasts a collegiate-level indoor track, an array of athletic courts, a specialized sensory room, and multiple classrooms.
Rockingham County Public Schools Chair Sara Horst was in attendance, and she thinks this will be a great opportunity for not only the community, but especially RCPS students. “I think there’s a great facility here that’s going to impact several of our sports and what other opportunities exist for our students.”
Construction began in November of 2023 and lasted 14 months.
The first major event to be hosted at the facility will be the Valley District High School Indoor Track and Field District Championship on February 8.
