HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – Overnight lane closures will continue this week on Interstate 81 in the Harrisonburg area.

Tara Todd with the Virginia Department of Transportation explains.

“Contractors are demolishing a bridge on Route 33, which requires single lane closures on the northbound side of I-81 between mile markers 245 and 247,” Todd said.

She added that the work is weeknights through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

VDOT crews will also be working on Interstate 81 in the Staunton area this coming week.

“Be alert for pavement marking operations on the southbound side of I-81 between mile markers 222 and 221,” Todd said. “That work requires overnight mobile left lane closures Tuesday through Thursday night.”

Todd also advised drivers in Rockingham County to be on the lookout for alternating lane closures along a section of Spotswood Trail east of Harrisonburg.

Crews will be installing rumble strips weekdays from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.
