AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — An Augusta County man will spend 90 days in jail after a standoff with authorities earlier this year.

According to online records, Evan Smyres of Stuarts Draft reached a deal with prosecutors during a hearing this week in General District Court.

A judge then sentenced the 42-year-old Smyres to two and a half years in jail with all, but 90 days suspended. He will serve one year of supervised probation upon his release.

It stemmed from an incident on March 24th when deputies responded to calls regarding an armed man yelling at passing vehicles in the 14-hundred block of Cold Springs Road and threatening to shoot anyone who came onto his property.

When deputies arrived on the scene, Smyres retreated into his home and barricaded himself inside. He was eventually taken into custody without further incident.
