RICHMOND, VA (Rocktown Now) — Governor Abigail Spanberger has ordered flags at half-staff on August 14, 2026, in memory and respect of Appomattox County Deputy Burlie W. Duvall III of Concord, Virginia.

While on the way home from the academy, Deputy Duvall and a fellow deputy came upon a multi-vehicle crash. Deputy Duvall was struck by a vehicle and killed in the line of duty while helping with the crash.

“Deputy Duvall leaves behind a loving wife, three children, and family and friends who should know that the entire Commonwealth of Virginia acknowledges his bravery, commitment to duty, and sacrifice,” said Governor Spaneberger.

Flags should be lowered on Friday, August 14, 2026, and remain at half-staff until sunset.
