HARRISONBURG, VA (Court Square Theater) — Arts Council of the Valley’s Court Square Theater ACT ONE program hosts Day of the Arts on Saturday, May 4, offering a full-day celebration of the arts with activities, workshops, and events in and around CST and Smith House Galleries.
All Day of the Arts programming is free and open to everyone.
Court Square Theater is located at 41-F Court Square and will host live and film performances, workshops, and a panel discussion. General admission seating for each of these events is available on a first-come, first-served basis:
● 11am, Frida Kahlo Documentary – View a definitive film exploring the life and art of global icon Frida Kahlo.
● 1pm, Rocktown Improv Workshop – Discover the Art of Improvised Theater with a collective of local actors and improvists. This workshop will explore techniques and creating unscripted scenes through games and audience suggestions.
● 2pm, Commedia Dell’Arte Mask Workshop – Learn more about Commedia Dell’Arte and stock characters through a mask movement workshop with Doe Polanz and the Sapass Company.
● 3pm, ARTEINMOVIMENTO Dance Co. Performance – Prepare to be captivated by the graceful movements and artistic expressions of talented dancers in a unique blend of contemporary and traditional dance styles.
● 4pm, Arts Impact Panel Discussion – Focus on the social and economic impact of art in our community. This conversation features moderator Kathryn Nusa Logan, with panelists Rubén Graciani, Jenny Burden, Nick Brinen, and Dr. Julian Knight.
● 5pm, The 3 Fairies of the Wind – Enjoy this commedia dell’arte performance for the whole family – complete with music, masks, dance, and audience interaction.
● 7:30pm, Dr How and the Reasons to Live Concert – Explore songwriting and arrangement with Harrisonburg’s favorite house band in this showcase of original tunes.
