BERGTON VA:  (ROCKTOWN NOW) – Hundreds of people gathered at the Bergton Recreation Center for a fundraiser aimed at assisting a firefighter who sustained serious injuries during last month’s wildfires. The community rallied together, encouraging donations to aid both the firefighter and their family in their recovery.

According to Chief Jeremy Holloway, the injury occurred due to a falling limb during the initial response to the fire on Brushy Run Rd. in Bergton. The firefighter was promptly transported to the University of Virginia Medical Center by ambulance and is currently receiving intensive care at UVA. Out of respect for the family’s wishes, specific details about the firefighter’s medical condition and their name have not been disclosed.

The Bergton Fire Department, in a heartfelt statement on their Facebook page, expressed gratitude to everyone who participated. They acknowledged the unwavering support from various fire departments, including the Mathias-Baker Volunteer Fire Department, Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Company, Broadway Volunteer Fire Department, Timberville Vol. Fire Dept., and McGaheysville Volunteer Fire-Company 80. Additionally, they appreciated the generosity of those who contributed desserts, supplies, and financial assistance, making the event possible
